My space is extremely limited in general with full sun areas comprising about 30% of my garden. Consequently, I make great use of containers. I just put my last 4 tomato plants in containers this morning, because I don't have space in the ground a...

Container gardening is great especially if you are limited on space. Alot of people may not realize that pretty much any veggie can be grown in a container (except corn and pumpkins). Although I'm not limited on space, I live on a 65 acre farm, I ...

Doh. It is a on a bit of a slope isn't it. I almost forget that from looking at it every day. Obviously too late to level it out this year. I think that I will wait till that plot hits it's eventual full size, which wont be for a couple of years a...

Total agreement on the use of rain barrel water for non-edibles only, especially here in the city. All that gunk in the air is in the rain water. Evaporation from the rain barrel just concentrates it. Thank goodness tetraethyl lead was banned as a...

Hypertufa is great. I'm pretty sure it is a simple recipe 1 part portland cement, 1 part peat moss, 1 part vermiculite, and water. You can make some interesting containers depending on what type of mold you construct. As far as the rain barrels......

Asphalt shingles are coated with petroleum, formaldehyde and often a leachable copper compound to retard algae growth. Rain washes off those substances. Granted they are in minute concentrations, yet one thing I've learned, as someone afflicted wi...

Then there is a bunch of scientist cats that are tripping, and not sharing the good stuff with us:-) Most of what I've read that says it's OK is not supported by research or facts, so I've read enough that I don't want asphalt roof runoff on anyth...

yea rain barrels are skeetter nests..but if you use a wedding vale material to cover the top your good to go..it should last one or two seasons..if your useing a blue barrel use the clamp ring for the vale..or else use an old ten speed inner tube....

I found a rain barrel was better as a mosquito breeding ground than as a source of free water amd I have a slate roof. I opted for terracing and subtle grade management with my raised beds to make the most of the rain. The rainfall is directed to ...

About Me....
Turning 50, watch out! Music, BMW motorcycles and organic gardening. Two daughters, one loving wife.

I front 2 bands.
Len's Lounge, a long running Cincinnati country folk and slightly trippy outfit, has 4 CD's out and are on a number of compilations. Current members are Dan Baechle on drums, Pastor Jason on bass and Jason Gay on pedal steel and electric six strings. We're currently in the barn working up songs for a release sometime this year. You can check us out at places like the Comet and the Southgate House. www.lenslounge.com

Jeff Scott Roberson is a solo, more folky rock project. I have one CD out, Summer's Here, recorded in Nashville. You can read all about the making of it at myspace. I'm currently working in the barn with Vicotr Strunk on bass (Me or the Moon, Ruby Vileos) and Todd Strunk on drums (Nathan Holscher, Ruby Vileos) on a new CD.
