It's late so I dont really have much to say on a level of great intelligence right now. So I just want to hear some input at this point. But I figured I would share this before I pass out and completely forget about it.
I just really want to know what classifies as "violent crime" to them. Oh and they pulled their info the FBI's 2008 uniform crime report. With the number of homicides I hear about on a regular basis I suppose those don't qualify as "violent crimes." And their number for "traffic deaths" seems slightly off to me as well. Then again as I stated before it's late and Im only firing half my brain cells in looking at this.
U.S. National Safety Council, Odds of Death in Lifetime:
Heart Disease 1 in 5.7
Cancer 1 in 6.8
Transport Accidents - Motor Vehicle 84 to 1
Assault - All 217 to 1
Unintentional - Bitten or Struck by a Dog 139,617 to 1
"If it bleeds it leads" reporting has been around since news was provided by traveling minstrels. It's all about perception.
My experience as a 51 year resident and 6th generation Cincinnatian - yeah, we built the place...literally
Attacked in violent street assaults/robbery attempts - 4 times - no serious injuries
Burglary attempt - 3 times - none successful. (One was hysterically funny- involved one dumbass junkie, a steep, narrow iron fire escape ladder, a couple of hundred pissed-off paper wasps, a great height and gravity - I'm chuckling just thinking about it! )
Traffic accidents - 3 (never cited) - injured in one (Tboned by a jonesing, pregnant, teenaged crack ho with no license, no insurance, no nothing but a need, in an unregistered crack car, who blew a blew red light at high speed)
Cancer deaths in immediate family (mother, father, brother, uncle, 3 first cousins, 4 grandparents) - 2
Deaths from heart disease in immediate family - 3
Unintentional deaths - 2 ( 1 industrial accident - 1 murder)
