Hell In A Handbasket

Cincinnati's Only Subculture Zine

Not sure how many Hellions realize this, but Bürger Beer is now back and with a vengeance. The once great Cincinnati beer is being brewed again and I'd say it poses a serious threat to our beloved PBR. We were fortunate enough to sample some thanks to Holden and I believe we need to have a beer off.

Similarities? Red, White and Blue Cans. They're cheap! They're both actually good for being cheap beer...BÜT...recently some places are raising the price for PBR!

I say we have a BEER off to determine which one will be the official beer of Hell In A Handbasket!

What should the official beer of HIAH be?

Burger Beer
Pabst Blue Ribbon

I had some last night. It's Okay and it would be a toss-up with PBR.

Not really being used to drinking Merican style beer for a while I forgot that you had to drinkemup, not sip 'em. I mean, if you let that stuff drop just a little from ice cold they get nasty fast.

VERY true.

I on the other hand, am VERY used to Merican style beer, but sipping is for whisky anyway :)

Ok Burger is from Cincy, what about Pabst? My Grandfather was a Die hard Pabst man, and Im thinking there was a very old Pabst brewery in Hamilton, Ohio, its long gone now, but I guess for nostalgic reasons I will stay with Pabst Blue Ribbon. Its roots run deep around here, and I always liked that cool looking Blue Ribbon, not to mention Ive got a a few old Pabst Blue Ribbon Tap heads. I know you used to be able to get PBR in Bottles but I havent seen it as of late? They used to sell it in these little wide fat bottles that looked kinda like oak barrels back in the early 70s, they need to bring those back again.

You can still get it in bottles; in fact you can get PBR LIGHT in bottles too - I bought it once by accident (the labels are very similar looking), and it wasn't bad at all...

The company I work for has its home office in Milwaukee and they're freaks about PBR and the other fine brewing companies up there... in fact I flew up for a meeting and the PBR flows like wine.

I do like Burger though.... to me it's a toss up taste wise. Two cheap beers... but everyone drinks it for sentimental reasons and cheapness, I suppose.

Plus PBR was the topic of one of the most awesome scenes in Blue Velvet, which gives it a cool, obscure edge.

By the way, what does everyone think of the new 24-ounce PBR cans? I had a couple at The Mad Hatter Saturday... like Roberthelpus said, you have to drink it fast though - otherwise it gets skanky.

Cool! all this beer talk is making my liver itch! Its about time for PBR! I will have to settle for a Mini Corona, its all that's left in the fridge tonight. I'm gonna throw a couple in the freezer, I like them real real chilly!!

after an informal taste test Friday night, I will say that PBR wins in the taste category, but for 6 dollars a twelve pack, and the Cincinnati connection, I would switch if prompted.

I noticed my next day 'after effects' were a little worse with the Burger.
